Better than the first in the series in so many ways.
Selah has found her father, but life is nothing like she hoped it would be. Her world is broken and the people in the mountain are calling for her blood. She has experienced so much loss and wants to quit, but she can’t. She forges on seeking her lost family and uncovering new mysteries. The biggest mystery is what is happening to her own body. She is changing and feels more alone than ever and it becomes apparent that what has made her new could also drive her to a life of madness. Her father has become distant and refuses to answer her many questions and Bodhi seems to be shutting her out as well.
The second book in the series does a good job of picking up where the first left off and driving the story even deeper. It takes a bit to get going, but once it does the story takes off. There are still several aspects of the story that I wish would have been explained better between the first book and this one. Selah’s growth as a character was very well done and made the story engaging. I was surprised at the early departure of Amyrills, I expected her relationship with Selah to grow with the story instead of being discarded so quickly.
By the last hundred pages I was very into the story and pleased with the different twists and turns. Emotions ran high and unfortunately lives were lost, but a good writer knows when a character needs to go to make the most impact with the story and at the end of this book that was done very well. With the ending left open, I am very curious to see where the story goes from here.
