A historical romance with just the right touch of tension and suspense.
Anne Loveday’s stepmother is trying to play matchmaker for her, but she wants nothing to do with love and is happy with her single life. Needing an escape, she returns to the place she and her sister spent their summers, Painswick Court, a place full of happy memories. When she arrives, she starts working as a nurse to Lady Celia who years before, kept her nephew from marrying Anne’s sister. The house holds plenty of people along with plenty of drama that Anne was trying to get away from when she came to Painswick Court.
Julie Klassen delivers a delightful tale of finding one’s own self in a time that was very difficult thing to do, especially for women. The historical romance genre usually delivers a fun and whimsical tale of a woman trying to find herself in a time that can be easy for women to get lost in the shuffle. It is always interesting to me to see how these authors try and tackle an old topic and bring about a new spin. Anne was a fun character to follow on her journey of finding herself and even work through the challenges of having a relationship with someone or not. Not the usual storyline for historical romances but a fun story, nonetheless. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun historical romance.
